Did you know that plasma from your own blood may be able to treat your problems? Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy is becoming more and more popular in Phoenix to treat a host of conditions, from joint pain to hair loss. The benefits of PRP therapy include:

  • Restores skin texture and tightness
  • Provides results that improve over time
  • Can be combined with other treatments
  • Doesn’t involve any outside formulas or chemicals

What is platelet-rich plasma?

We all have plasma in our blood. It’s mostly made of water and protein, but it also contains something very important: platelets. These platelets have healing growth factors that have the ability to treat a wide variety of medical and cosmetic conditions. When platelet-rich plasma is administered to the problem areas (via injections), the results are often effective.

What can platelet-rich plasma treat?

  • Sports injuries
  • Post-surgery wounds
  • Tendinitis
  • Hair loss, especially androgenetic alopecia
  • Skin issues such as large pores, fine lines, and acne
  • Fine lines or sagging skin on the face
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Aged skin tone and complexion

PRP treatment candidates

If you’re interested in trying PRP treatments in Phoenix, you may be a great candidate. However, you most likely will not be able to undergo PRP therapy if you have:

  • Anemia
  • Abnormal platelet function
  • Cancer
  • Infection
  • A low platelet count

Benefits of combing PRP with Filler treatments

Combination of these two treatments have been known to increase the longevity and level of results. Filler provides your skin with a restored fullness in areas that have lost volume over time. The addition of PRP helps sustain those results by jumpstarting your body’s own natural regenerative processes. PRP also treats skin issues that filler alone cannot, such as fine lines, acne and uneven texture. These two treatments on their own work incredibly well, but in conjunction are able to deliver better, longer-lasting results.

PRP treatment details

Each PRP procedure will be different for each patient, depending on what area you are having treated. However, most appointments begin with the area being cleansed, and then a topical numbing agent being applied to help minimize any discomfort.

Next, a vial of blood will be drawn from your arm (1 to 2 ounces). The blood will be placed in a spinning centrifuge, which will separate the blood from the plasma in layers. The plasma is then extracted into a syringe, and is then injected into the area to be treated—whether it’s the face, lips, scalp, or another area.

When platelet-rich plasma is used in conjunction with microneedling for facial rejuvenation, it is applied drop-by-drop to the face rather than being directly injected.

One of the best things about PRP treatments is that there is very little downtime. There will be different side effects for each patient and each treatment, but in general, our Phoenix patients can go back to their regular activities after their PRP therapy session. Some patients experience soreness, bruising, itching, or scabs in the area that received PRP injections.

Because my PRP treatment would be for my injury, does my insurance cover it?

Sometimes PRP treatment in Phoenix is covered by insurance. To make sure, call your insurance company.

Do PRP injections hurt?

The pain level during a PRP procedure will depend on each patient, according to what is being treated and their own personal pain threshold. Some patients have said that the needle just feels like “tingling”, and others compare it to getting a tattoo.

How do I prepare for my treatment?

Because your blood is drawn during a PRP treatment, be sure to eat something beforehand so that you don’t get lightheaded.

How many PRP treatments will I need?

With most PRP therapies and treatments, multiple appointments are required to achieve optimal results. During your consultation with Dr. Craft, he will discuss how many treatments you will need.
