Revitalize Your Feminine Wellness With Vaginal Rejuvenation

As women get older, their bodies go through a variety of changes. Whether it be due to genetics, aging, or childbirth, the vagina and surrounding tissue can gradually lose strength and elasticity. This can result in dryness, incontinence, and reduced sexual pleasure. If you’d like to restore the function and appearance of your vagina, vaginal rejuvenation could be an ideal solution.

What Is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a term referring to several types of vaginal corrective procedures. These procedures are often performed to improve the appearance of the vagina, increase sexual stimulation, or tighten the vaginal tissue and muscles.

Reasons Patients Want Vaginal Rejuvenation

After childbirth, women may complain of vaginal laxity, resulting from stretching of tissues and separating of muscles, sometimes to the point that a tampon falls out, and this lack of tone can contribute to sexual dysfunction.

The Different Types of Vaginal Rejuvenation

There are several kinds of vaginal rejuvenation procedures that are commonly performed:

  • Labiaplasty - Labiaplasty is a surgery performed to adjust the size of the labia minora. Most commonly, the size of the labia is reduced to improve its appearance or reduce discomfort. The procedure can also be done as part of gender-affirming surgery.
  • Vaginal Renuvion - Vaginal Renuvion is a procedure used to tighten the labia and mons. The non-surgical procedure utilizes radiofrequency energy and helium plasma to heat and contract the skin.
  • Vaginoplasty - Vaginoplasty is a surgical procedure performed to repair or tighten the vagina. This procedure is designed to tighten the vagina by directly addressing muscle laxity an removing excess skin of the canal. An alternative is noninvasive vaginal tightening through heating tissues with radiofrequency waves or laser. The surgery is most often performed after childbirth. Patients with significant laxity may not experience a benefit from these treatments and may be better candidates for surgical tightening with vaginoplasty.

Benefits of Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal rejuvenation can offer a variety of benefits depending on which procedure is being performed. Possible benefits of the treatment include:

  • Improved vaginal appearance
  • Increased vaginal lubrication
  • Increased sexual stimulation
  • Improved vaginal tightness
  • Help with incontinence
  • Increased self-confidence
  • Strengthened vaginal muscles

What Should I Expect During the Procedure?

If you’re interested in vaginal rejuvenation, the first step will be a consultation with Dr. Craft. During this meeting, Dr. Craft will ask you about what you’re hoping to accomplish with the treatment. He will work with you to determine what type of procedure is the best choice for you and to create a personalized treatment plan.

Your vaginal rejuvenation procedure will most likely be performed on an outpatient basis under general anesthesia. First, Dr. Craft will make small incisions on your vulva, inside your vagina, and/or in the surrounding tissues and muscles. The specific locations of the incisions will depend on which procedure you’re undergoing. Dr. Craft will then make the necessary adjustments to your vaginal area depending on your treatment plan. Finally, he will close the incisions with dissolvable stitches to finish the procedure. On average, vaginal rejuvenation procedures take between one and two hours.

How Long Is the Recovery Time?

After vaginal rejuvenation, most patients need to spend about a week resting, recovering, and avoiding strenuous exercise. However, you will need to refrain from sexual intercourse for approximately six to eight weeks.

Am I a Candidate for Vaginal Rejuvenation?

You may be a good candidate for vaginal rejuvenation if you meet any of the following criteria:

  • Have given birth vaginally
  • Have experienced bladder incontinence
  • Have experienced vaginal dryness
  • Have experienced pain during sexual intercourse
  • Have a desire to improve the appearance and/or tightness of your vagina

Ideal candidates should also be in good physical health and have realistic expectations for the treatment.
