What Are Dermal Fillers?

As we age, our skin loses its natural strength, firmness, and elasticity. It begins to sag and appear hollow, and our lips can also start to thin out. Lines and creases appear. However, dermal fillers are formulated products that restore firmness and elasticity to the skin, providing a more youthful and attractive appearance.

Who Are the Best Candidates For Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers are a great option for men and women who want to refresh their appearance without the commitment or downtime of surgery.

The best candidates for our dermal fillers are those who are in good health, have realistic expectations about their results, and want to smooth wrinkles, restore volume, or enhance their features in a natural-looking way.

Fillers also work well for individuals noticing early signs of aging, like some fine lines, hollow cheeks, or thinning lips, but they can also be used preventatively to maintain youthful contours.

During your consultation at CraftMD, we will assess your skin quality, review your goals, and determine if dermal fillers are the right choice for you.

What Are the Benefits of Dermal Fillers?

Dermal fillers can improve nearly any facial concern, from thin lips to lines and wrinkles to loss of volume. They are called “dermal fillers” because they do exactly that—they fill the dermis to create youthful plumpness.

They are FDA-approved and safe to address a wide variety of concerns, including:

  • Soften lines, wrinkles, folds, and creases
  • Volumize hollow cheeks and/or temples
  • Enhance facial contours
  • Address concerns with the nose
  • Plump and shape thin lips
  • Add youthful volume to the backs of the hands

What’s the First Step?

There are so many different kinds of dermal fillers that patients can often get overwhelmed trying to determine which one is right for them. At CraftMD in Scottsdale, we can help with this during your consultation. After discussing your specific areas of concern and your personal aesthetic goals, as well as going over your medical history, we will determine which dermal filler is best suited to your needs. There are many different brands and uses of dermal fillers, for everything from hands to lips. We understand the variations—both large and small—of each dermal filler, and we will go over which one is best suited for you. We will take your requirements into consideration, as well as the longevity, thickness, purification process, and other factors of the dermal fillers we use.

What to Expect on the Day of a Dermal Filler Treatment

Dermal fillers are typically administered under topical anesthesia or a local nerve block, resulting in minimal discomfort. They are injected using a very fine needle, and appointments take around 15 minutes. The speed and convenience of dermal fillers are two key reasons for their popularity, as well as the minimal side effects and downtime.

Dermal Fillers Recovery

Some of our Phoenix-area patients may experience mild bruising and swelling at their injection sites, but this should subside within a few days. It is also common to notice slight tenderness or redness right after treatment, although these effects are temporary and usually resolve quickly.

Most people feel comfortable getting back to work, socializing, or even working out the very same day.

To help minimize swelling, you may be advised to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun or heat for the first 24 hours.

Within a week, your results should settle beautifully, leaving you with a refreshed, natural-looking appearance.
