When an individual is unhappy with their nose, it can feel like that nose is the only thing anyone sees in conversation. If you dislike certain things about your nose, Dr. Craft can help.

What is a rhinoplasty?
As a very prominent facial feature, the nose has the ability to either bring harmony to the face, or to throw it off balance. A rhinoplasty or “nose job” has the ability to address imperfections such as a bump, bulbous nasal tip, oversized nostrils, or a crooked bridge. This procedure can completely transform an individual’s self-esteem and confidence.
Key benefits of rhinoplasty
Whether you’ve wanted a rhinoplasty procedure for years, or it’s a more recent area of concern, we will discuss your aesthetic goals to get the results you want. A properly performed rhinoplasty can:
- Straighten a nose that is crooked or has been broken
- Narrow the nasal bridge
- Bring the nose to its correct size for the face
- Improve breathing and/or a deviated septum
- Improve the tip of the nose
- Reduce the size of the nostrils
Rhinoplasty surgical details
Rhinoplasty is performed under either general anesthesia or IV sedation. The type of anesthesia that will be used will be discussed during your consultation, along with which rhinoplasty technique Dr. Craft will be performing (either open rhinoplasty or closed rhinoplasty).
If you are having more complex changes made to your nose, you will most likely require an open rhinoplasty, because this technique allows for maximum precision. With an open rhinoplasty, the incisions are made on the outside of the nose. With a closed rhinoplasty, the incisions are made within the nostrils.
Recovery
The first thing to know about rhinoplasty recovery is: don’t be concerned about the amount of swelling that may occur. Many patients—especially those who chose a rhinoplasty to make their nose smaller—see their swollen nose and become alarmed. However, swelling is normal with any surgery. It will subside quite a lot over the course of two weeks, but will continue to decrease over the next several months.
To reduce swelling, keep your head elevated. Try sleeping upright (for example, in an armchair), and utilize cold packs. It’s also important to follow the home care instructions we give you to help with a speedy and smooth recovery. The recovery from rhinoplasty can take up to two weeks.
Many patients feel like their nose is congested during this time, and swelling, bruising, and discomfort are normal. If tape or splints were used on your nose, they will be removed in one week at your follow-up appointment. While your nose will look better and better in the following weeks, it may take a year for the final results of a rhinoplasty to become apparent.
