Tuberous breasts, which are also referred to as tubular breasts, are the result of a congenital condition that most commonly develops during puberty. The symptoms of the condition can vary, but in most cases, the breasts develop abnormally small and shaped. Some of the most common characteristics of tuberous breasts include:
- Breasts spaced widely apart
- Small breasts
- Large, puffy areolas
- Narrow, cylindrical breasts
- Breasts sitting unusually high on the chest
- Unusually high breast creases (inframammary folds)
- Asymmetrical breasts
- Downward-facing nipples
- Drooping breast skin

What is Tuberous Breast Correction?
Tuberous breast correction is a cosmetic surgical procedure used to improve the appearance of tuberous breasts. The treatment is customized to meet the unique needs of each patient; most commonly, it is performed using either silicone or saline breast implants. These implants are inserted into the affected breasts to create a rounder, more youthful shape and enhance the size of the breasts.
Tuberous breast correction can also involve other surgical techniques, including mastopexy (breast lift), glandular tissue resection, areolar balancing, and internal tissue release. During tuberous breast correction surgery, Dr. Craft’s goals may include:
- Enhancing the size and shape of the breasts
- Raising the inframammary fold
- Lifting the position of the breasts
- Improving breast symmetry
- Removing any excess or abnormal tissue
- Expanding constricted breast tissue to create a rounder appearance
- Resizing the areolas
